Bree MacPhee Lyon – Coach

“Simply put, CFR is home. A family. A community that has supported one another through happy milestones but also loss. It’s warmth is infectious.”

CrossFit Level 1 Trainer
First Aid/CPR/AED Certified

Bree was a Varsity downhill ski racer and soccer player in high school. She went on to play Rugby and some Soccer in college, but had to stop competitive sports due to multiple injuries in both knees. She continued to be active after her knee surgeries, but had a tough time getting back to her prior fitness level. Most important, she missed the team atmosphere and camaraderie of organized sports.

Bree started CrossFit in June of 2014. She had just relocated to Madison from New York City and only knew her husband and work colleagues; it was time to branch out and meet new people. She instantly fell in love.

Bree CrossFit photoCrossFit Recursive welcomed her with open arms and her fellow athletes have become her closest friends and support network in Madison. She loves that everyone cheers each other on until that last person finishes the WOD; it has the same feel of the supportive team atmosphere. CrossFit also gave her the level of intensity she missed – you constantly push yourself to be better, to do one more rep, to add a little more weight. Within a couple of months she also noticed that much of the pain in her knees was completely gone.

Loving what CrossFit had done for her and wanting to share its benefits with others, she decided to pursue her CrossFit Level 1 Trainer certificate in July of 2016. She is looking forward to growing her knowledge base and honing her coaching skills. She loves the feeling she gets seeing people challenge themselves and realize their goals.

When she is not coaching she is the Director of Community Impact, Academic Success at United Way of Dane County, where she oversees their K-12 Education programming.
