Jonathan has been involved in teaching and athletics for most of his life. Involved in everything from speed skating to track to football, if it was competitive, he was into it.
After graduating from Madison Memorial High, he went on to play NAIA Division 1 football in college, and graduated with a degree in Outdoor Education/Environmental Science. After college, Jonathan accepted several different teaching positions around the country and dabbled in the “fringe sport” of whitewater kayaking.
After a 10-year stint on the professional competitive circuit, he decided it was in his best interest to take on something less life-threatening, but just as competitive. From there he found the sport of triathlon, racing in several half and full iron distance events.
It was during this period that he was led to the sport of fitness. Several of his training partners used CrossFit as a means of injury prevention and strength to combat the long training days on the road. He immediately fell in love with the “get after it nature” of CrossFit and chose to pursue this sport after hanging up the triathlon racing belt.
His first ever CrossFit workout was “Fran” and he hasn’t looked back since.
After moving back home to Madison to be closer to family, Jonathan found CrossFit Recursive and found that their values were very much aligned with his own, and decided that coaching would be a perfect way to combine his passions for fitness and for teaching.
