The other owner at Recursive! Recursive is a family owned small business. Husband and wife owners, 3 kids, (and a giant dog) all help out at the gym. If you work outside of the gym, what do you do?
Before opening the gym, I worked as a graphic designer/marketing specialist. I have a background in photography, news writing, and web design as well.

Favorites List
Color: Green (Dirk’s favorite color is orange -t hat’s why the gym colors are orange and green!)
TV Show: The Office, Parks and Rec, Friends
Movie: Dodgeball
Food: Chicken Wings
Candy: Mike and Ike’s
Book: I don’t read often enough…
CrossFit Movement: Snatch (I suck the most at them – but love a well executed Olympic Lift!)
Song to Workout to: Freedom by George Michael

Did you participate in high school or college sports (or after college)?
I lettered in Track as a high school freshman (triple jump was my jam!) and made the Varsity basketball team as a sophomore.

When and why did you start CrossFitting?
I got tricked into in by Dirk! I said I would never do it – but here I am now!

Why did you decide to become a CrossFit Coach at Recursive?
I fell in love with CrossFit when there were only 4 affiliates in the area. I liked some parts of what other gyms were doing, but not everything. I couldn’t find what I was looking for, so I decided to start from scratch and become a Coach with the goal of opening our own gym.

What is your favorite Recursive memory?
I certainly have a lot! They all center around the people that have become part of the Recursive family. I love it when our community comes together to help people out. Rina Strong for Joe was amazing. Being able to expand our space in our location (affectionately known as The Annex). The first CrossFit Games in Madison was a crazy, fun time too. Having all of those CrossFIt famous people at the gym still blows my mind!

What is one of your proudest Recursive Coaching moments?
During a noon class awhile back it was just Rachel and we got to spend some time working on double unders. I think I was more excited than her when she got them!

Do you have any special talents or something most people don’t know about you?
When I first started CrossFit, I was quick to pick up double unders. But somewhere along the way, I lost them. I spend a whole summer, frustrated, working on them. There were a lot of harsh words, tears, and throwing up the rope that summer. BUT, because of those struggles, I am pretty good at teaching double unders to others because of it!

Anything else you’d like to share?
I have 3 teenagers and a giant Irish Wolfhound! My food budget is high and house cleanliness is low…
