You’ve heard the story of Michael Jordan getting cut from his middle school basketball team. If he hadn’t been cut, he would have never had the desire and the drive to work hard. He would have never become the amazing athlete that he was.

The same is true at the gym. We appreciate the things we work the hardest for. If we pick up a jump rope and immediately knock out double unders or jump up to the rings and do a muscle up, we never appreciate the value of the work that went into learning and achieving those movements.

Have you ever been given something, like a free product of some sort? You likely value it less because it cost you nothing. But if you had to buy that same item, you would probably care more about it, because it cost you something to acquire. We often take for granted the things we didn’t work hard to get.

Take your weakness and make it your strength. That thing that seems so far away, make an effort to work on it. Earn something for yourself. Put in the work and reap the rewards.

When you do finally reach that goal, you can sit back and truly appreciate the hard work that went behind getting what you have. Nobody gave it to you. No one bought it for you. No one gifted it to you. You did it. You earned it. You value it.

The things at the gym (and in life) that you put the blood, sweat, and tears into, the things that you have worked hardest for, will also be the things that bring you the most joy.
